The Great Lakes of the Lower Delta

Hitting the water isn’t a problem at all in the Lower Delta. From the mighty Mississippi River to Lake Monticello to the Arkansas River to Bayou Bartholomew, you can find a body of water for whatever your favorite activity happens to be.

Three great choices, whether you’re wanting to fish, kayak or get out in your boat and explore, are Bear Creek Lake in Marianna, Storm Creek Lake in Helena-West Helena and Lake Chicot in Lake Village.

Bear Creek Lake is located within the Mississippi River State Park and the St. Francis National Forest.

Located within the Mississippi River State Park and the St. Francis National Forest, Bear Creek Lake is a regional favorite for anglers, in search of its largemouth bass, bluegill, red-ear sunfish and blue and channel catfish. The 625-acre man-made lake is also becoming very popular with kayakers, and campers have known about its beauty and tranquility for decades. For campers, the Mississippi River State Park is a must. You’ll find everything from primitive sites to Class AAA sites, complete with water, sewer and electricity.  Storm Creek Lake, located on the southern end of the Mississippi River State Park and the St. Francis National Forest, is a 425-acre man-made lake offering great fishing, swimming and boating (but remember the 9.9 hp motor regulation on both of the lakes). The nearby Storm Creek Lake Campground is home to new camper cabins and completely renovated camping facilities.

Check out the new camper cabins at the Storm Creek Lake Campground.

Lake Chicot in Lake Village is a water lover’s dream. Fishing, birdwatching, skiing, boating…you can find it all and more. Lake Chicot, a 20-mile-long, former main channel of the Mississippi River, is the biggest oxbow lake in North America and Arkansas' largest natural lake. For photography buffs, Lake Chicot offers some of the most amazing sunrises and sunsets you’ll ever experience.

Lake Chicot in Lake Village is a great choice for water sports of all kinds!

So if you’re ready to hit the water, the Lower Delta is a great choice!
